Section 1: Implementing the Sklik Retargeting Script
Retargeting (RTG) allows you to reach users who already interacted with your website. It is one of the strongest performance tools in Sklik and a core component of the customer journey — especially before creating Dynamic Retargeting (DRTG) campaigns.
To use Retargeting and more connected to it, you must first add the Sklik Retargeting Script to your website.
1. What the Retargeting Script Does
The retargeting script:
- Tracks visitors to your website
- Assigns them to retargeting lists (RTG lists)
- Enables Dynamic Retargeting using product feeds
- Enables Lookalike audience generation based on RTG lists
Without this script, you cannot use any retargeting-based features.
2. How to Generate Your Retargeting Script
- Go to Tools → Retargeting in Sklik.
- Click „View retargeting code“.
- Copy the generated JavaScript code.
3. Where to Place the Script
Insert the retargeting script:
Right before </body> on every page of your website.
Best practices:
- Place it globally (all pages → homepage → product pages → checkout → thank-you pages)
- Use your CMS global footer to ensure coverage
- If using GTM → place it via a tag (see section 3 below)
4. Creating Your Retargeting Lists
Once the script is active, you can create lists based on user behavior:
Common RTG lists:
- All website visitors (X days)
- Product page visitors (DRTG – products)
- Cart abandoners
- Converted users (from the conversion site URL)
- Users visiting a specific category
- Blog readers and more
Each list can have its own membership duration. Dynamic lists are capped. See related sections in the Sklik Guide.
Best practice:
Start with simple lists and expand later.
6. Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Installing the script only on a few pages
- Forgetting to install it on thank-you pages
- Installing multiple scripts
